Mike consults with homeowner on RUSTIC LOG HOME

  Brave homeowner from Mikes home town area is in the process of building his own log home. All the trees have been removed from his own forest, hand hewed and fitted. It is a very old fashioned method, rustic look, yet allot of hard work. Mike stopped on the site for some much needed advice as the project has come to a stand still. The log stack was begun with out a foundation poured, however the stack can be taken apart and reassembled on a foundation at a later date, but this is much more work.  Mike made this visit as a curiosity to this delightful homeowner whom Mike bonded with right away! He has made his expertise available when the homeowner is ready to tackle it once again.

Built in the months of Dec, Jan and completed  up in Feb during the polar vortex ! Ice cold conditions as far south as Mo. Below zero wind chills were common. Shorter days and taking off for Christmas delayed the construction of this large beautiful  home. Over 106 feet long it is true majesty.

 in the hills of Colorado 

I was called in at the last minute, "hey I don't think my son and his buddy can get this up before winter". I learned that they got my name from the Coventry Sales staff. Within four days, as luck would have it, I was able to accommodate them. Just myself and my son drove  the nearly 800 miles to a small unknown city south of Colorado Springs in fall. Here I am with the son and his buddy, who was a school teacher. They were on the job site daily to help out. They helped stack the logs, nither had carpenter experince , yet were quick on their feet and had good common sense and they were a great help, plus we enjoyed each other and had some good fun. They were staying on the job site in their camper which was purchased just for this occasion. They provided us lunches , soups , stews and sandwhiches which was greatly appreicated as we did not have to leave the job site for meals and could get back to work quickly. 

This house took two weeks with the four of us all by hand. I did not do windows and doors the intent was to get the bulk of it completed so they could finish up the rest.

~Winter  short term project~ 

Patriot Log Home Builders was called in to construct the difficult roof system on aprox a 3000 sq foot BARN constructed from hand crafted hand scribed full large pine logs in Wisconsin. Mike Hompertz laid out and assembled the roof  on this model home for a fellow in the industry whom lives in Wisconsin . This took him 6 days with the aide of a 'goofer" Go get me that ....common in the industry  . Classic construction  Jeff Glaza is the man behind the model home and the beautiful rustic logs you see here .

Winter work slowed to a halt however Mike worked diligently on his development of THE SURVIVALIST SERIES and worked on closing contracts for the late spring and summer.
