Log home kit buiding pricing....what to avoid.
Patriot is one of the few Log home builders in the industry that builds across the nation, has received accreditation and recognition in the media. When considering buying a log home many factors come in to play, first choosing the log home company. This is an important and time consuming process , Mike Hompertz is happy to receive calls from potential homeowners who are in this beginning stage. As Mike has built for nearly all the major log home companies in the industry , he can compare apples to apples . It is helpful to acknowledge that all offer similar features, most claim they are the best, the most affordable , or can supply all your needs, (one stop shop) yet in this time in our society, as with most avenues, the consumer needs to be self educated to some extent, to avoid the pit falls of an aggressive over eager sales person. The choice of which log home company should fit your needs. Mike can help in this process, offering free consultation to buyers in the beginning stages. Call him direct at 608 547 4129
Patriot is not directly affiliated with any log home company, does not receive commissions or other compensation but rather is completely independent. He is a builder of log homes not a salesmen for log home companies . This is a distinction worth noting. Log home companies refer him to their buyers as a qualified builder because they know he can get the job done , is reliable and trustworthy. Log home companies have Mike Hompertz , Patriot Log Home Builders on their preferred builder list, because they are confident that he is one of the best ! Period.
Most importantly you do not want an inexperienced builder, or one that has only build stick frame housing to build your log home. Why? It may cost less, but this is a highly skilled profession and you don't want the inexperienced , non professional log builder , to build your home. Patriot has built for at least a couple dozen different log home companies in his past 20 plus years experience. Everyone wants to get the most for their money, it is human nature. Clearly if one does diligent research , cost can be reduced and those savings put into other resources, such as upgrades in the kitchen or bathroom. Yet , DO NOT , reduce those building costs in the first stage of building your log home. Reducing costs in the rough phase one, log stack , and roof framing process is not advisable. Initially , it is one of the highest costs other than your kit. But to cut costs here, time and time again, has proved to be risky at best.
There are hundreds of qualified STICK FRAME builders and general contractors who build stick frame homes or structures , meaning 2 x 4 wood, insulation, dry wall and exterior siding. When researching a bid you will find that they price the cost of their building by square footage and it is substantially lower than a log home builders price per sq ft. Ranging from $4.00 (stick bid) to as high as $ 30.00 or more (log home). There is a reason for this. The old add-age "you get what you pay for " is still true to today for a reason. Many stick frame builders when confronted with their first opportunity to bid on a log home, will clearly underbid to capture the business. DO NOT LET someone who has never built a log home build yours. So much can and has gone wrong, stories abound, and these foundational mistakes can rarely be corrected and then it exceeds and throws your budget out the window. Be prudent. Ask yourself, what is their internet presence, are they recognized, can you see their work on line? Clearly Mike Hompertz meets all these criterion.

COVENTRY LOG HOME BUIDT BY Patriot log Home Builders
LOG HOME BUILDER~Mike Hompertz

builds a 1500 square foot full log
COVENTRY HOME
in the hills of Colorado
I was called in at the last minute, "hey I don't think my son and his buddy can get this up before winter". I learned that they got my name from the Coventry Sales staff. Within four days, as luck would have it, I was able to accommodate them. Just myself and my son drove the nearly 800 miles to a small unknown city south of Colorado Springs in fall. Here I am with the son and his buddy, who was a school teacher. They were on the job site daily to help out. They helped stack the logs, nither had carpenter experince , yet were quick on their feet and had good common sense and they were a great help, plus we enjoyed each other and had some good fun. They were staying on the job site in their camper which was purchased just for this occasion. They provided us lunches , soups , stews and sandwhiches which was greatly appreicated as we did not have to leave the job site for meals and could get back to work quickly.
This house took two weeks with the four of us all by hand. I did not do windows and doors the intent was to get the bulk of it completed so they could finish up the rest.

The lovely yellow flower of the Tulip Poplar |
Mike wanted to see first hand the product line offered by Grizzly log Homes, so he instigated contact with the owner and learned that a model home "The Shotgun ",was being erected in the state of Tennessee . He made arrangements to met the man behind the business, see the logs first hand and learn what tulip polar really is , as he has never experienced it before and was more than curious about what it was. In addition ,he would train some of the builders that where new to the company in the process. As Mike has been considering for some time, to begin the selling of log homes, and this company was of great interest to him, it made prefect sense to explore all aspects of the business before making any decision.

Feeding baby goat with baby bottle at the homestead in TN
Living arrangements were made for Mike, he lived with the neighbor on the property, in this close knit Christian community . The land was breathtaking, set in the heart of the Appalachians where plenty of chickens ran free ...with , horses , sheep, cows and goats, Mike learned that the goats are called Jacobs goats (the goat from the bible) this darling little baby , not a Jacob goat ,was a real treat to get to know. He was being fed by bottle and Mike took a cute video of this . The local people of this close knit community homestead, live off the land and animals are an integral part of daily living , it is really charming to say the least.
Delicious and wholesome meals were prepared for Mike each evening, as part of his compensation for building . The people were truly friendly, Mike noticed that no matter what, people would give you a warm gracious wave of the hand, with a sincere smile while walking or driving by.
On Sunday , the day was set aside for the Lord, and Mike, as most others, did not work, instead a local gathering in the home of the hospitable neighbor, set up her home as temporary church venue for Bible study which Mike attended and found both refreshing and inspirational .
Rustic log stack , old fashioned pioneer look Affordable no frills log homes !!! |
Mike discovered the men that he worked with were very open to other and different techniques that they were unfamiliar with. For example, the men found useful the importance of concentrating on each corner , stacking it plumb and level at this aspect because when they are stacked plumb the overall home stays square which less problematic elements during the roof erection ,. In addition, the tools he brought the men quickly learned how some of them saved both time and energy which took much of the hard lifting and other strenuous aspects of log building off.
This extremely affordable package, has log stack on first floor and siding on 2nd where the stick framing is being erected. A no frills home yet comfortable and practical-3 bedrooms and 2 baths! |
